Shower After a Nexus
Hi all, I have been running a Nexus 300 for a couple of months now and must say I am quite pleased with its performance. But I was wondering if anyone runs a shower after their Nexus and if it made any improvement to their water quality.

If the N has only been running a couple of months I would give it a chance to mature to see what it delivers..
What is the load on it in terms of fish and feed and in how big a pond?

If the Nexus is doing 100% of the nitrification, the shower would only be doing some aeration and maybe some DOC foam fractionation. Rather that slow the shower down to the max flow rate of a Nexus, around 3500goh, run the shower in parallel and at a much higher flow rate. Put the Nexus on the skimmer(s), and put the shower on the bottom drain(s). But I advise putting a sieve (US3, not Cetus) prior to the shower. Running two filter in parallel means you are better prepared in case of you need to turn off one system for maintenance. In winter you can either drape the shower in an insulated tarp or bypass it with water still going from BDs through sieves to pond. So in winter Nexus could be the only nitrification filter.

Thanks for the replies,
Pond 4,000 gallons with bottom drain to Nexus 300, 130 litres fluidised K1 returned to pond with optimax 15,000 choked back and skimmer to midi sieve through oase 10,000 through 55 watt uv over waterblade.seperate air pumps for pond drain and filters.
