Ammonia and nitrite driving mad
I've had ammonia 0.25mpp and nitrite 0.50mpp for about 5 or 6 weeks l've tried everything I can think of to brng them down 25 percent water changes every day put pond bombs and pond balls in the filter the filter is three 45 gallon drums with 50 liters of k1 two are static and one is the moving bed, I'm using zeolite at the moment still the same

Have you stopped feeding? Don't put any more food in until you see a drop in readings, and make sure all water you put into the pond is properly dechlorinated.

Thanks Balder and Andy1671,I stopped feeding them 8 days ok and I'm using a inline dechlorinator and I've tried three different types of test kits

Sometimes inline dechlorinators can be unreliable, get some dpd4 tablets so you can test for chlorine, and keep some liquid dechlorinator as backup.
Could there be an area of the pond where there is a build up of dirt, how large is the pond, and how do you clean the drums of static K1?
Sorry for all the questions, just exploring all possibilities.

The pond is 2000gallon I vac it on a regular basis each of the static drums have a bottom drain so its flushed through directly with pond water,I will get some of the dpd4 tabs thanks for the tip mark and don't worry about asking so many questions.pete

A random question this one but what light are you viewing the results under, I've found that low energy lamps, normal lamps and daylight all give slightly different readings with low energy lamps being the worst for giving a true reading.
Our local B&Q have a colour swatch viewer and the colour differences under various lighting is easy to see.Alias PWNN - Steve

Pete, when you flush the static k1, do you agitate it first with an air ring or stones underneath?
Can you test a sample of the water that you use to top up with. This will give you a comparison with the pond water.
If your pond has an over flow, consider a trickle in. Even a slow trickle of 500ml per minute will add up to 750l per day. The slow flow will greatly improve the performance of the carbon dechlorinator, and prevent any large ph or temperature fluctuations.

Each tube as its own air supply so I can agitate them when cleaning it's a diy filter based on Wrightys design off youtube it worked perfect crystal clear water all tests were great then 6 weeks ago it all went wrong. Today Pond ammonia between 0 and 0.25 a slightly better nitrites 0.25 ph7.5 dechlorinator ammonia 0 nitrite 0 ph7.5 haven't tested for chlorine yet will be getting dpd4 tab tomorrow in the meantime doing a slow trickle pete

It seems you're finally seeing results, if readings continue to drop and get close to zero, start feeding in tiny amounts monitoring carefully as your bio recovers. I had a similar ammonia 'spike' last year, and I never did discover the cause.

Hello, tryed to get some dpd4 tab to test for chlorine useless places were I live don't stock them. I know there not good but I got some tetra test strips the results were 0.8 also found my inline dechlorinator was spent so I got some liquid dechlorinator and heres the thing I an't ever used the liquid one before , would appreciate your help please

Hi, get the dpd4 tablets on ebay, there's usually plenty available cheap with free postage. With the liquid dechlorinator, just follow the dosage instructions on the bottle. You only need to add the dosage for the amount of water you're adding, not the whole pond. There's no danger of overdose, and you can just pour it straight in, I pour it into the airstream or other area with good flow, or you can mix it with pond water in a bucket and spread it around the pond. It is more suited to a set amount of water, rather than a trickle in, but it'll tide you over until you refill your inline.
How are the ammonia and nitrite readings?

It's looking like the chlorine has killed or partially killed your beneficial bacteria.
The extent of the damage is based on the amount of chlorine and time scale, so is very difficult to say how severe.
Basically replace the water purifier and until then, temporarily dose the whole pond with liquid dechlorinator.
Once chlorine is removed the filter bacteria will start to recover which will be like cycling the filters again for the first time. Therefore you will suffer the new pond syndrome again with ammonia levels followed by nitrite, followed by nitrate.
I'd recommend keeping a very close eye on pond cleanliness as this will add to the bio load of the filter and water quality.
Monitor water perameters daily so you can react quickly to changes and carry out extra water changes to keep ammonia and nitrite down.
Don't feed the Koi until things settle as this will help reduce the Ammonia they put out. Then very slowly increase feeding when the filter is maturing.
Are the Koi showing any signs of distress like flashing, gasping, sitting on bottom, not feeding, fin clamping etc?

Jon
