Yes mate, I've never had success treating personally but people do try salt dips but it's the organs failing mate. It's your call what you do next!

If by the time you notice a fish with the classic symptoms, constantly near the surface in a corner and with the classic reddening skin and pine-cone symptoms, it's usually far too late.
I had two that I'd had for ten years that demonstrated those symptoms and I followed the usual procedures, in my hospital tank in the filter room.
It was quite sad, they stayed next to each other near the surface in a corner of the tank for several days and died within a day of each other."The information's out there,

AW. How sad, DHR. I agree, its a terrible illness, and although mine was a Goldfish, I was heartbroken when it died. VERY difficult to treat!!! xx

There's a line in the classic film, "Someone to Watch Over Me," where a friend says to Lorraine Bracco; "Your husband, (Tom Berringer) is a dork!"
She replies; "Yes I know, but he's my dork!"
Likewise, these were only mutts, but they were my mutts."The information's out there,
You only have to let it in." (Jesse Stone)

I agree that, when dropsy becomes apparent, the chances of recovery are small and that the choice between trying to treat, allowing nature to take it's course or euthanasia is best left to the owner. But if the decision is to try to save the koi then then the treatment I've written up on my website will maximise the low rate of success. I've run the procedure by some reputable health experts and there is general agreement that this process will do no harm and will give the best chance of success.

Any pictures? Is it 100% dropsy?
I thought I had a fish with dropsy, classic pine cone effect, it did have internal kidney problems as I rescued it (in december, and brought flukes with it) after treating the problem, and some time. The koi made a full recovery and is now in a new home happy as larry.
If it is dropsy, no doubt... then yeah not too much of a survival rate. But it's worth a shot. QT and salt, or follow Manky's advice, he really knows his stuff.Blog, Koi, Everything.

It's never a nice thing to have to do but it's far better than having a fish suffer.

Hi Chris. Sorry for the loss of our Koi and having it for 17 years you say mate. Never an easy decision to make but as stated in earlier posts, quality of life is what you have to think about. Sorry again Chris.
