    Help please

Hi guys, I inherited a pond with the house in March this year and it looked like pea soup. My wife gave me the instruction to either fill it in or sort it out, as I've always liked koi I started to get it sorted I've done the best calculation I can and reckon its approx 5500 litres I pump out about half the water and found 3 koi living quite happily in there they are about 30cm I installed an easy pod a new 8000 lph pump and an 18w uv within about 6-8 weeks the water looked fantastic but over the last few weeks the water has started to look not as clear ansd also I'm now getting foam on the top so really I'm asking do I need a bigger uv? Do I need to turn the water over more quickly and what is causing the foam
    Thanks for any help

    Hi there
Is the pond in full sun? My pond as started to go slightly murky as the sun is causing the algae in the pond to grow quickly but this isn't a problem and will have no affect on the system, a larger uv will prevent this. The foam is caused by DOC (dissolved organic compounds) in the water, as the water returns from the easy pod is it hitting and disrupting the surface? As the bubbles rise organic compounds cling to the O2 molecules and rise to the surface causing foam, this is generally due to high protein food or over feeding, you can get foam fractionators to prevent this or skim it off the top. Do you have any pictures? Sounds like you've done really well, keep up the good work
    Thanks Chris

The foam is caused by Dissolved Organic Compounds (DOC`s)regular water changes will get rid of most of it,10/15%,it`s caused by overfeeding & Koi carp poo etc.The UV is probably not big enough,36w would be better or perhaps bigger, the sun is very strong at the moment.
