Nexus outlet
Hi Guys.
I've just seen an old nexus 300 being sold on ebay, and in one of the pics I can see that the owner has filled the outlet, ie at the other side of the metal plate, with K1.
I assume this will be static, as the air in the outer chamber won't affect it.
I think this seems like a good ideal. What do you think?

I think it was sold by ea as a water polisher to help catch fines. It wasn't very successful and didn't catch on. Others use filter wool in the same place which is much easier to remove and clean.

Do you have a link Jay, had a quick look on ebay and cant see it.
Do you mean they have k1 on the pump side of the plate, assuming its gravity fed won't the pump just suck it through. Also if its where I think it is cleaning it will be an issue even if they have a blanking plate in place.
is it this one Evolution Aqua Nexus 300 Limited Edition Pond Koi Filter | eBay
looks like jap matt on the exit and k1 has just got around it during the removal from the pond. I have jap matt and filter wool on the exit of my 200 but any k1 would just get sucked through the pump, not good..

Ha ha, think you are right waterdog, it's just a bit of overspill of K1. Lol.
So, let's pretend it is full of K1. You think it would be a mare to clean, I agree. And any sort of cleaning would just free the debris to be returned to the pond.
So yeh, crap idea. Lol
Oops.

...With a little plate to stop the K1 being sucked into the pump - I was looking at the link Balder's posted the other day and wondered if anyone had used it myself.

The little plate would stop the K1 being sucked out, but there is no way to flush the dirt, it would just fall down and get pumped back to the pond once you disturb the K1.
Real shame, as for a brief moment it looked good.

I have a nexus filter block then two layers of wool then finally jap Matt to hold it in place.
The "sandwich" is held in place by the grooves in the outlet body.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
