    More Questions on Draco Drum!

    Hi all
as the thread title..this is aimed at all of you with the DD (Fred, George etc!) I like a few am thinking of putting one in my 320. I have a few questions though, as I have never had a drum, so apologies if a bit obvious to you guys/gals:

    1. When the Drum is in wash cycle does the water flow stop or get diverted so the flow through the system continues? Reason I ask I have a UVC and a Heat-pump on the same circuit, and if its cleaning very often, the HP flow switch will cut in and out..which could cause a problem?
    2. If the flow stops, for the clean, how long does it take before flow restarts..thinking of static water in the UV's..when they are still on
    3. My Nexus is outside, under decking, so could anyone tell me how high the drum unit stands above the top lip of a Nexus 310/320...if more than 16cm..I will have to raise the decking (pain) - does this height of the drum depend on your water level..so should I have the height from whatever water level you have to the top of the drum (when you adjust the DD tray to the water level, does the drum height itself vary)?
    4. The lid of the Nexus I will probably cut to allow drum to poke through as I would want to keep out the cr@p that could fall through the decking

Got to ask...is your water seriously fine free?! Cheers all

That'll give you an idea on height:

    (You might need some adjustments!)

Water level; I understand you don't need to adjust, I.e. If your gravity at pond water level it just drops in.

As you say you need Fred/George for the specifics.

    Thanks,

    Rob.

I installed mine after good feedback here and it hasn't missed a beat.
Fines much better than just standard 320, but yet to have a summer, can't see it being a problem.
Drums in general do seem to be gaining the go to system.

In terms of specifics, no loss of flow when cleaning. As it clogs water is drawn out of outer bio section, this drops and then triggers the Draco, as it cleans water flow through screen on drum increases and water level returns to normal. So should be no difference if pump is after nexus and before uv/hp.

Level wise, 16cm may just be enough, I have mine on 2nd lowest setting and it's about that, but depends on your water level in nexus.....if yours is at max already in nexus (mine is probably 5/10cm below max) ie pond height and nexus are optimised you may struggle getting it low enough.

    Hope that helps!

Thats really helpful thanks. Are you operating a pressure pump for the water, or just tap pressure..if just tap pressure it cleans the drum well, and fairly quietly? For me the benefit for holidays would be a god send..as normally I don't mind cleaning the nexus, its so easy..but also to be removing fines so small would be great..
    cheers

Just fitted one of these to my 220, makes filter maintenance a doddle now as the drum basically does it for you, mine has a permanent water feed to it as I was advised that this is the preferred way of feeding the washer jets rather than adding the separate pump (apparently the pump doesn't fit well in a 220), I have 3bar mains water pressure and mine works a treat!

Hi good to hear, as yesterday I bought one from Chris at S @ C Koi! Should be with me next week. I measured my water feed to the pit, and this is at 4 bar, so pressure should be spot on to clean, from what you have said. Please tell me have you seen a big difference in fine reduction/clarity in your pond, as others have..vs std Nexus?! Cheers

S&c, that's where I got mine fromMore Questions on Draco Drum!

Hard to say in terms ofwater clarity at the minute I'm afraid as I've currently got some algisin in the pond to treat for the string weed on the sides of the pond wall, I'll tell you this - you'll be amazed at the amount of crap it does pull out on each wash - just shut off the drain tap on the nexus and let the waste pipe fill up and you'll see all the fine dust it catches!!

Is it possible to modify the cover on the 220 once the Draco is fitted?

Not without a lot of hard work, even then it wouldn’t be practical.
managed to fabricate one out of polycarbonate, two halves, one half from the left rear corner of the Draco cut to go around clockwise to the inlet of the Nexus held on with a couple of self tappers, but would just lie there, other half goes from the left hand rear corner of the Draco again anticlockwise to the Nexus inlet, leaving the inlet
uncovered. This part I don’t have fixed down.

Good idea trying to decide AEM or Draco and then if it’s the Draco standalone or integrated with my 220. What do you think?

Apart from the obvious of dropping in a Draco, if space allows and you can have the AEM or the Draco stand alone, you could leave the centre of the Nexus as it is but open up the air tap and have an extra bio section.
