Hi, the best thing you can do at the mo is look through the pond construction threads.
Best way to go.....
Bottom drain/s
Skimmer
Gravity fed system
A form of mechanical filtration such as a rotary drum filter(RDF) the more expensive but far superior method. Static K1: easy to DIY a filter this way, requires “boiling” with an air pump to clean. The Nexus filters use this type of filtration but can be time consuming.
Bead filters
Sieves
Then a form of bio filtration:
Fluidised K1 or Hel-X
Showers with BHM (Bakki house media), siporax, crystal bio, pumice etc
Also some people use anoxic filtration and vege filters.
UVs
Pumps - water and air
Dechlorination methods- Sodium thiosulphate, big blue carbon filters, 3 stage purifier.
Consider if you want to heat over winter.

Hi and welcome rigger. It Sounds like your question really was whats new in the world of koi
voodoo made some good points above.
The one big thing now is drum filters they have changed koi keeping completely and although theyvare expensive initially, they are the best automated mechanical filter you can buy depending how far back you are depends on whats new today So multibays and beads have been replaced with nexus and seives and now its all been replaced by drums, airated moving beds and showers
Best to have a good look at the modern builds and ask as many questions as possible
good look with the new build when you start and as freddy says, lots of pics will be nice

Think you will find Bigmel on the '' pond life forum '' known as Mel on there, not on as much as he was though .
