Nice one Ryan but disappointed that dealers selling fish at a show with problems and for what it would have cost to bath them prior

I know mate, it's a shame really as it doesn't take 10 minutes to scrape a few fish before you sell them.
Still made up with the fish though and hopefully it'll grow to be a stunner.

thats an interesting one to learn from, lots to do on the sashi at the front. has an interesting pattern when it lifts up onto the top.
how is the skin, looks nice in the pic-one thing Jos aben said at his talk was that other than the tips the fins shouldnt be see through as it shows thicker and hence higher quality skin
keep us posted

I do like the pattern and the face pattern too. The skin is nice and the beni is nice and deep.
The fins are a little out of proportion. But if the fins were perfect then I probably couldn't afford it. Not on a students wage
I'll measure it before it goes in the pond and then in October. I'm going to rescrape on Tuesday and redose on fluke solve on the wednessday. All going well it'll be in the main pond on the weekend.
What is sashi and kiwa ?

Lovely looking koi Ryan luckily you scraped it before adding it to your pond for people new to this hobby this is a great lesson as when I first started I would of just brought it home and out it in my pond only to discover I had problems later on
Also another reason to have a qt tank

Ryan, it's the front and the back of the beni (red) pattern.
sashi is the front-on your fish you can see the red under the white scales on its shoulder. as the fish gets older this skin will thicken and then the demarcation between white and red will be very sharp. usually you want it to be 1 oe 2 scales maximum otherwise its may never consolidate and you get a messy outlien to the front of the pattern.
the kiwa is the opposite-the trailing edge of the beni. again, idally you want this to be as tidy as possible when the fish is finished. there are 2 main named types. marozume and kamisori, marozume is where the red fills and follows the scale-so you get red scallop shapes at trailling edge. kamisori means cut and so its where the pattern at the trailling edge runs through the scales-as long as its tidy it is considered good to have mainly marozume with some kamisori as it indicates good beni and likely to stay.
on this fish its interesting because it has a mix and also a pattern that will be changed quite considerably by how this finishes
good luck and enjoy

Yeah exactly but to be honest when I first started out I had no idea about scraping fish quarantine tanks ect and most people new to the hobby most probably don't too. So people selling fish to an unsuspecting customer like that is bad and not something you would expect from a dealer at a show
Luckily I will only buy off my trusted dealer who I know follows strict qt procedures and all fish are clean when they leave the dealership
I suppose like everything there are the unscrupulous who are just after selling on without any worry about the consequence to the buyer and their pond and any fish in there already and a good lesson for any new koi keepers to take note of
